Situation
The company sells planning software to mid-sized Austrian manufacturers. The product was well regarded by the people who already used it, the sales team closed well once they were in the room, and the problem sat entirely in the stage before that. In competitive tenders they were repeatedly told some version of the same thing: we had not come across you.
Their previous programme had been run out of Germany as part of a regional package. The articles were written in standard German and translated from an English source brief, the placements were almost all on German industry blogs, and the anchor text was the same exact-match phrase in every one of them. On paper it looked like a working campaign. In Austrian search results it was close to invisible, because nothing about it belonged to this market.
The deeper issue was terminology. Their buyers, production managers at Austrian manufacturers, searched using Austrian industry vocabulary that did not appear anywhere in the German-built content. The agency's keyword set had been derived from German data and quietly missed the phrases that mattered most.

Discovery
Mapped every live placement against sales-assisted pages and removed blog, careers and vanity URLs from the brief.
Approach
We started by narrowing the brief rather than widening it. Three pages carried the pipeline, so everything was pointed at those three.
The previous campaign had spread links across most of the site, including the blog and the careers page. We agreed with their head of marketing to support only the solution and comparison pages that sales actually sent to prospects, and to ignore everything else for two quarters.
Run against Austrian search data with a native speaker reading the results, the vocabulary shifted noticeably. Terms the German campaign had targeted barely registered here, and Austrian phrases their buyers clearly used were absent from the site entirely.
Rather than generic explainers, we built articles around problems their implementation team dealt with weekly. Their lead engineer gave us time on a call for each one, which is where every usable detail came from, and the pieces went to Austrian trade and industry publications.
Alongside the commissioned work, we placed contextual links inside older Austrian pieces about production planning that were already ranking. Faster, cheaper, and pointed at the same three pages so the effort stayed concentrated.
Every placement states the company by name in the sentence carrying the claim. That was a deliberate decision for German-language AI answers, where an unnamed hyperlink carries nothing forward into a summary.

In their words
We finally stopped explaining who we were in every pitch. Austrian buyers were already finding the same three pages our sales team sends.
